Welcome to Forever Friends!

WHAT WE DO---

Forever Friends rescues Golden Retrievers from shelters and owners who must sadly give up their dogs. We place them in foster homes for evaluation, provide medical attention as needed and, through applications and family visits, adopt them into loving, forever homes in Ventura and southern Santa Barbara counties.

Panting Dog Did you know that the color of your dog's gums are a sure sign of heatstroke? Read more on How to Prevent Heatstroke.

Rescuing a dog is a wonderful way to give a dog a second chance at life, and find yourself a new best friend. But, how do you help start this new relationship off on the right paw? This FREE Guide, a 107-page e-book, walks you through the first seven days of adopting a rescue dog. Veterinarian Dr. Susan Wright and Editor Misty Weaver take you through the first seven days, from selecting a dog that will be a good fit with your family through to establishing routines and socialization. Each chapter ends with a real story from a family that adopted a rescue dog, sharing with you the joys and the challenges that accompany any adoption.

ADOPT
If you look through our Forever Homes stories, you'll see what love and joy this special breed brings to families and homes. The Goldens we take in range from beautiful AKC registered purebreds to adorable and loving Golden mixes, from puppies to seniors...all in need of a roof, some food, and lots of love.

FOSTER
We always need homes and loving hearts in our service area (Ventura County and southern Santa Barbara County) to provide a temporary home and TLC for a homeless Golden. This is a perfect solution for seniors or retirees who want to travel yet have a furry companion when they are home!

VOLUNTEER
Forever Friends depends on its volunteers... people who want to make a difference in a dog's life. Transport, family evaluations, shelter intake, events, fundraising...these are just a few of the activities involved in finding good homes for Goldens.

ECO-RECYCLE
Don't forget you can turn in your old digital cameras, cell phones, laptops, handhelds, and inkjet cartridges to help Goldens and the planet!

Be sure to visit our Pet Services, Supplies page for businesses in the community who support our rescue efforts!

This beautiful poem was written by 13-year-old Scarlett P., a granddaughter of our President. It says it all.

Let the Goldens Rejoice

Matted fur
sad brown eyes
staring through a rusting gate
lost within a terrible world

Fat, neglected, maybe even lost
sad, depressed, sometimes crying
needy, helpless, trying to hold on
but slipping into darkness

Loving people
with caring hearts
and tan vests
rescue them and give them new homes
let the Goldens rejoice!

Groomed fur
bright brown eyes
running on a plush green lawn
barking joyfully within a new world

Fit, energetic, home sweet home
happy, bright, always laughing
kind, helped, finally relaxing
have found what they have been looking for all this time
a home and….

Forever Friends
let the Goldens rejoice!
