Rescue Teamwork

Forever Friends Golden Retriever Rescue learned of a beautiful 2 year old golden that was being seriously neglected. Arrangements were made for a volunteer from FFGRR to pick up the dog. The volunteer loaded her in his vehicle for the trip to Ventura County and her new foster home. As the volunteer opened the door to get her leash, she bolted.

She was spotted a couple of times during the next several hours as volunteers and neighbors searched for her. But she was no where to be found.

Flyers were published that night and posted throughout the neighborhood. More flyers were published and posted. Volunteers canvassed the entire area. There was still no sign of her.

The foster made contact with a group called Simi Missing Pets. They really pulled out all the stops to try to find her. Our volunteer saw her, but couldn’t catch her. At least we had the good news
that she was alive, seemed not to be injured and was still in the area.

Simi Missing Pets was again contacted . Their experience in finding lost pets indicated that she probably could not be caught unless a humane trap was used. The trap was set on Sunday. The volunteer in the area went many times during each night to check the trap, but there was no golden retriever.

Finally on the third day, she went to check the trap about 11 AM and at first thought there was a very large gopher in the trap.. But as she got closer she realized that the trap had worked and the lost golden was not happy, but was alive and seemingly uninjured.

Simi Missing Pets immediately responded and came to help get the dog from the trap to the volunteer’s car. The dog was taken to Moorpark Veterinary Hospital, but would not walk, she was carried into an exam room and checked out thoroughly. She was examined and found only to have a broken toenail which was treated. Her mats were clipped, flea meds given, blood drawn for further testing, her foot cleansed and wrapped. She was released to her foster with a follow up vet visit scheduled for 48 hours later.

Without the combined effort of our rescue volunteers who had unwavering faith and foresight to contact Simi Missing Pets, we may not have been able to write this happy ending.
