Kobe's Story

Kobe is a beautiful 4 year old Golden Retriever who is the quintessential golden, loves kids, big dogs, little dogs, especially people and even cats.

FFGRR was asked by his owners to take him as he needed some expensive medical care and they were not in a position to provide this care for him. He had an ulcerated tumor on a back toe and we knew it would need to be removed. We also had a biopsy performed and xrays and other tests.

The results of the tests are very sad. The tumor is a very aggressive form of cancer and it has spread to Kobe’s lymph system. The only treatments available are severe and costly; total amputation of the rear leg, melanoma vaccines, radiation and chemotherapy. The veterinary medical staff indicated that all these treatments combined would only give him a few extra months of life and the quality of those months would be seriously compromised by the treatments.

Kobe will remain with FFGR Rescue as a permanent foster for as much time as he has left. He will be loved unconditionally, pampered, cared for medically and lead a full life until it is time for him to leave us.

Hope's Story

June 21,2011 Hope came to us from a shelter. It was obvious she was in very bad shape. Weighing only 41 pounds at the age of two and a very bad limp, she needed immediate veterinary care. We learned that Hope had a badly broken leg that had been left untreated for months. Hope would need surgery to fix the leg, but may lose it, since it had been left unattended for so long. Today, hope visited with Dr. Chow at ASEC in Los Angeles and he was confident that he would be able to save the leg. Today she had what looks to be a successful surgery and hopefully will regain full use of her leg. Beyond her physical recovery, Hope has a long way to go emotionally. Sadly Hope has been abused and this is probably how she suffered these injuries. She is very frightened of men, and won’t approach anyone, yet longs to be touched and petted. She is in a patient and loving foster home that will give her all the time she needs to begin to trust humans again. Hopes name was chosen by her foster and she really does give us all something to “Hope” for. Watch for more updates on this special girl. We have a Major Medical Fund called the Scarlett Fund to set aside donations directed toward medical expenses such as these. You can also use our monthly donor plan, the Golden Friendship Program, to direct a monthly contribution to our Scarlett Fund. Even $10 a month will go a long way as more and more of our supporters become Loving Friends.
